THE OIL ROUTE OF MONFERRATO (FEAT. FOOD AND WINE ROAD OF GRAN MONFERRATO)

Olive growing was widespread in Monferrato until 1400, when it was abandoned and the rolling hills were dedicated to grape growing. After more than 600 years, olive growing has returned, thanks also to the favorable climate, and the high quality produced has led to Olivola being awarded the title of Città dell'olio (City of Oil), the first in Piedmont! A tour by own means of transport or by e-bike to meet the families who have brought back the age-old activity of olive growing to alternate it with grape growing between Olivola, Ponzano M.to, Sala M.to, Moncalvo and Alfiano Natta. Visit and tasting at one of the wineries on the Grignolino Road is included.

Starting point Olivola, the first town in Piedmont to have been awarded the title of ‘town of oil’.
