Are you ready to accept our sporting challenge? Tone up those muscles and lungs and come and enjoy your favourite sport here. At many of the local stables and pony clubs, and also at many agriturismos, horses and riders will get a warm welcome and also have the chance to discover our wonderful countryside on horseback; these Green Weeks of discovery are also often combined with cookery and tasting workshops.

Cycling enthusiasts will find hundreds of kilometres of dedicated routes, both for those who like to speed along roads as well as those who prefer some serious climbs up and around our hills and the Apennines. One obligatory stop however is at the Museo dei Campionissimi at Novi Ligure which celebrates two heroes of Italian road racing, Fausto Coppi and Costante Girardengo. Special cycle tourist routes of varying difficulty are also there to be enjoyed (maps and leaflets are available at local tourism information offices) on the very roads where the champions themselves trained.

At Caldirola in the Curone Valley is an adventure park dedicated to downhill mountain biking complete with lifts to take riders back up to the top after a breathtaking descent. Also on offer are wheeled bobs.

Finally for fans of old-style sports there are tamburello and pallapugno, two sports that can be said to precede tennis and very closely related to the "pelota" of the Basque region. From March to October, in modern ballparks, in the streets and squares of the little towns there are little white balls being hit everywhere, up to 80 metres just with the force of a wrapped fist.

The excellent network of sports centres for football, volleyball and athletics means that the province of Alessandria is the perfect place to organise sporting masterclasses, pre-season tours and sporting galas for both small and large groups.
