20 million years ago, Monferrato was covered by the sea which resulted in the marly sandstone rock called pietra da cantoni which now characterizes the hills. An infernot, UNESCO heritage site since 2014, is an underground cavity located under dwellings. They were dug by hand into the sandstone and thanks to their origin the temperature and humidity is kept constant all year. Visit the ecomuseum of Pietra da Cantoni and its infernot, the ancient and scenic quarries, and meet a craftsman who makes furnishing objects, panels and decorations with the stone of Monferrato.
