GRIGNOLINO ROAD (Feat. Food and Wine Road of Gran Monferrato)

01 April 2025 - 31 December 2026
2 days - 1 night

Casale Monferrato
Activity description

Grignolino is an eccentric and unpredictable wine, which you meet at a party and find difficult to forget. Lean and agile, a little rebellious, with a touch of subtle irony. Casual but with a touch of vintage, it prefers simplicity and quality over ostentatious luxury.

Here is a selection of experiences our Grignolino production area has to offer:
experiences dedicated to those who love talking about the land and handcrafted products, experimenting and playing with tradition and, for a moment, if they rise with the wind, they do so from a hot air balloon to see the hills from
above.

Program

day 1
Our package for two people: one night in accommodation facility along the Grignolino Road, visit with tasting in one of the wineries of the Food and Wine Road (stradagranmonferrato.it) - one experience of your choice among those
listed

Possibility to add other experiences or additional nights

day 2
• Cantone Stone & Infernots. The Monferrato area was covered by the sea 20 million years ago, and from it originates Cantone Stone, a marly sandstone rock that characterizes the hills. It is from this particular stone that the infernots, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2014, have been dug: underground cavities located beneath homes and built by hand, which, thanks to their origin, allow for constant temperature and humidity year-round. Visit the Cantone Stone Ecomuseum and its internal infernot, the ancient quarries, and meet a craftsman who creates furnishings, panels, and decorations from Monferrato stone (Cella Monte).
• Daytime and nighttime truffle hunting: hike through the woods with our expert trifolau and his "tabui" in search of the precious king of the table. The search and extraction of truffles are intangible heritage of humanity, underscoring the value of this traditional practice and its role in protecting the environment and biodiversity. A top experience is nighttime truffle hunting, complete with a cooking class and tasting of a truffle-based dish.
Don't miss the local truffle fairs in the fall, featuring banquets and gourmet tastings (Rosignano Monferrato / Serralunga di Crea / Vignale M.to).
• Hot air balloon flight in Monferrato. A hot air balloon flight will take you on a discovery of the wonderful Monferrato region, a sea of hills crowned by forests and vineyards and dotted with villages, wineries, and castles, all from the unique and magical perspective of the sky. You'll witness the spectacle of the inflation, and in a flash, you'll find yourself safely floating, carried by the wind. The experience will conclude with a hearty breakfast or aperitif at a local farmhouse, depending on the season (Tonco).
• Tamburello Experience. Monferrato tradition is encapsulated in the game of tambourine a muro, or tambass in Piedmontese. Games played in the sferisteri, the squares beneath the bastions, make this specialty a unique opportunity to discover the history and art of this area. Tambass is more than just a game; it's a celebration that unites entire villages. A game is played with ancient and proud gestures and filled with unmistakable sounds. Under the guidance of expert players, you will participate in a lesson on the rules and use of the tambourine, including tricks for hitting the ball and hitting it back as far as possible while keeping your breath up.
(Vignale Monferrato)
• On the Oil Road. Olive cultivation, which flourished in Monferrato until the 1400s, was abandoned to turn the rolling hills over to vines. After more than 600 years, thanks to the favorable climate, production has returned, producing a high-quality product. So much so that the small village of Olivola was awarded the title of City of Olive Oil, the first in Piedmont! A tour by car or e-bike to meet the families who have brought this age-old cultivation back to alternate with the vineyards between Olivola, Ponzano Monte Moncalvo, and Alfiano Natta. (Olivola)
• Quad biking through the hills. An exciting adventure aboard a quad bike to discover Monferrato, traveling along dirt roads through vineyards, woods, and hazelnut groves. The seasons make the routes ever-changing throughout the year; the same route traveled in autumn can seem completely different with the arrival of spring; the colors provide the backdrop, making every experience unique. During the excursion, a stop for an aperitif (Vignale Monferrato)
• Nature Academy. On a farm surrounded by rows of lavender and medicinal herbs, choose one of the workshops to rediscover sustainable practices and reconnect with nature: the secrets of ancient roses, the magic of herbs, a workshop for making jams and preserves, soaps, and artisanal perfumes. A day immersed in nature with lunch featuring garden produce (Alfiano Natta)
• Wine SPA and Vinotherapy. A relaxing and wellness experience harnessing the properties of grapes and the polyphenols contained in their skins. In a spa created in the ancient fermentation cellars, a relaxing and anti-aging bath immersed in wine in a barrel with a hydromassage. Lunch/dinner for two included (Fireplace)
• Top cooking class. A fun kitchen experience under the careful guidance of an award-winning chef who will reveal the secrets of every dish and every ingredient. And then, after removing your "commis" apron, you'll enjoy the prepared dishes together (2 courses + dessert/drinks not included – minimum 4 people) (Olivola)
• Casale Monferrato and the Krumiri. Guided tour of Casale Monferrato, the ancient capital of the marquisate. Stroll through the historic center to discover the Paleologi Castle, the Cathedral of Sant'Evasio, the Church of San Domenico, and the magnificent Synagogue: built in 1595, it is an extraordinary example of a Piedmontese Baroque synagogue with stucco, gold, and precious wooden furnishings contrasting with the exterior façade, which is devoid of reliefs as required by the Albertine Statute. It is considered one of the most beautiful synagogues in Europe and inside is the Museo degli Argenti and the Museo dei Lumi. Then, stop at a pastry shop to discover (and taste) the famous Krumiri biscuits (Casale Monferrato)
• Big bench ebike tour. The colorful giant benches positioned at scenic spots become stops on a fun e-bike tour to visit the small villages of Monferrato where time stands still. During the tour, a visit to the Co. Rilifera company to discover the IGP Piedmont hazelnut and an aperitif on the terrace at bench #48 in Sala Monferrato (Cuccaro – Lu - Sala Monferrato)
• Small Museums, Great Narratives. A guided tour to discover extraordinary men, navigators and explorers born in Monferrato or who lived here, forging a strong bond with these hills. Villa Vidua in Conzano, with the stories and artifacts of the travels of explorer Carlo Vidua, one of the most important adventurers of the 19th century. The Colombian Museum in Lu Monferrato, created by the Monferrato Columbian Studies Center: what if Christopher Columbus had been born here? And then the Nanni Ricordi Museum in Sala Monferrato, dedicated to the legendary record producer and "inventor of singer-songwriters."
Conclude with a "Monferrato breakfast" in a winery or among the vineyards (Conzano).
• The Sacred Mount of Crea: nature, culture, and art. The Sacred Mount, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its devotional route through 23 chapels and 5 hermitages, culminating in the Paradiso Chapel, is a must-see in Monferrato. The guided tour includes a visit to the Sanctuary of the Madonna Assunta, with the statue of the Black Madonna, a place of pilgrimage.
A tasting lunch of typical Piedmontese fritto misto (don't be fooled by the name—you won't eat fish!) is included (Sacro Monte di Crea).
• Lavender Experience: A journey to discover the most scenic lavender fields, where you can take photos, enjoy a glass of lavender at sunset, or enjoy a refreshing lavender gelato! The lavender-blue Big Bench is a must-see (Lu / Cuccaro).
• Harmony & Balance in Monferrato. Rediscover the pleasure of movement and the lightness of body and mind, allowing yourself to be enveloped by the beauty of nature. An invitation to slow down, breathe, and rediscover harmony through special experiences and events, accessible to all, designed to pamper yourself in a conscious and authentic way. Lunch included (Moncalvo)
• Artisan Hands. A unique experience to discover some of the local artisans with their ancient crafts, workshop life, and their art. A human dimension and a value of the territories to be preserved and passed down. You will meet the woodworker, the ceramist, and the embroiderer, those who work with stone, and even those who passionately create authentic sculptures with old nails (Frassinello Monferrato / Camagna M.to / Rosignano M.to)
• Personal food shopper. Are you a foodie always on the lookout for excellent products? Do you want to discover the area's iconic products and meet the producers and artisans of taste firsthand? With this experience, you'll take an exclusive food tour of markets, shops, and farms to fall in love with cured meats like "Muletta," goat cheeses, PGI hazelnuts, honey, and rice, and be amazed by olive oil, wines, and spirits.
And your groceries will be delivered directly to your home (Murisengo)
• Trekking: Landscapes and Chimneys. An itinerary through landscapes and industrial archaeology in an area once dedicated to cement and lime production. Visit the Mi-cem Museum of Miners and Cement Mines of Casale Monferrato, a glimpse into our history not to be forgotten. Visit and tasting at a winery included. (Ozzano Monferrato)
• Aleramo, the twin-cam and the infernot ebike tour. An ebike tour along scenic and quiet roads to learn the history of Aleramo and the infernot, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Departure from Grazzano Badoglio and the Benedictine Abbey founded by Aleramo, founder of the Marquisate of Monferrato and buried here. Do you know the legend of Aleramo and his heroic ride astride a white horse? Then on to Moncalvo and its Civic Museum, home to precious works by Orsola Maddalena Caccia, as well as Chagal and de Chirico.
The Casorzo twin-tree, a perfect symbiosis of a mulberry and a cherry tree, is a must-see.
The day ends with a visit to a UNESCO World Heritage site infernot and a picnic in the vineyard. (Grazzano Badoglio)
• Getting lost and finding yourself: the history of Gabiano Castle and its mysterious labyrinth garden and historic monument. Relax and immerse yourself in nature at the "La Sorgente" lake at the foot of the castle: the quiet of the hills and the sounds of nature will provide moments of harmony. For sports enthusiasts, there's the possibility of fishing in the lake (equipment rental available). Gourmet picnic or lunch at the Castle restaurant with a tasting of wines from the estate's vineyards (Gabiano)
• A U-Force through the vineyards. The U-Force is an off-road vehicle, ideal for exploring hilly terrain and routes inaccessible by traditional vehicles, making the vineyard tour a unique adventure. Thanks to these vehicles, you'll travel between the rows to reach breathtaking panoramic points. Following the tour, enjoy a tasting and visit to the winery (Ozzano Monferrato).
