The site is located in the middle Borbera Valley, one of the two main valleys in the
Piedmontese Apennine sector. It occupies the stretch of the Borbera stream between Borghetto Borbera and Cantalupo Ligure, where the waters have carved deep gorges (called "strette") in the conglomerate rocks, creating extensive and steep walls. It boasts valuable flora and fauna. The Strette del Borbera is crossed by the paved road that ascends the Borbera Valley, offering several panoramic viewpoints. Two trails also offer good views of the landscape, starting from the Strette del Borbera and ascending along the crest lines of the ridges that extend
north to Monte Gavasa (911 m) and south to Monte Gravasana (870 m).
