The refuge is located at an altitude of 1397 m a.s.l. on the northern slope of Monte Ebro, in a wide clearing surrounded by magnificent beech forests, reachable on foot from the provincial summer camp of Caldirola in about 1 hour or in 30 minutes from the Stalle di Salogni. Construction on the refuge began in 1974 at the behest of Ezio Orsi, one of the Members of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) of Tortona, a great lover of our Apennines. In September 1975, the works which saw the active participation of a large number of the CAI members and volunteers lovers of the Apennines, were completed. To regularize the legal position of the refuge, in 1990 the non-profit association Amici del Monte Ebro was set up and has now 150 members.
