The Casasco Naturalistic Astronomical Observatory was founded in 1997 by private individuals who formed the Astronomy and Environment Association. From 2004 to 2015, it was managed by the local Mountain Community through a Board of Directors appointed by the local community. Since the end of 2015, the Observatory has been managed by the Astronomy and Environment Association.
Its location on the scenic Magrassi Coast was chosen for its easy accessibility and still moderate light pollution.
