Il Sacro Monte di Crea

The Sacred Mount of Crea is part of the serial site proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003. It is home to the Marian sanctuary, a destination for devotional pilgrimages since the Middle Ages, and a series of chapels located along the path that climbs to the top of the hill, where the richly decorated Chapel of Paradise stands.

The area was protected with the establishment, in 1980, of the Sacred Mount of Crea Natural Park, which enhances the unique characteristics of the area. historical, artistic, religious, and naturalistic attractions of the site.

From the Sanctuary square, take the tree-lined avenue, marked by the CAI 701 trail sign, which starts near the bar and offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Cerrina Valley and, on clear days, of the Alpine range. At the third chapel, take the path on the right that descends into the woods and shortly after reaches a fork where you must keep right, remaining in the woods until you reach the hamlet of Forneglio.

Take the small road to the left of the church that descends into the valley and goes up to the village of Serralunga di Crea, characterized by stretches of fortified walls. When you reach the main road, turn left and walk through the village, nestled on the ridge, enjoying the surrounding panorama.

When you reach the end of the village, turn left uphill and continue on the dirt road until the fork where you must keep right, continuing through the woods to skirt Bric Castelvelli (410 m). Turn left and walk through a beautiful chestnut and oak forest until you come to a clearing where you can enjoy a beautiful view of Mount Crea.

Take a right and reach the dirt road that continues through the greenery to Cascina Cavallo, then continue on asphalt until you reach Cascina Zenevrea, surrounded by beautiful vineyards. Here, you must turn left, overlapping the Superga hiking trail – Vezzolano - Crea and, immediately after, turn left again onto the provincial road that takes you back to the Crea Sanctuary, where the circular route ends.

From the former state road 455, a few kilometers up to the Sacro Monte di Crea. After parking your car in the parking lot, you'll head to the Sanctuary, where the route begins.
