The territory of the Municipalities of Camino, Morano sul Po and Pontestura is an interesting site. Ghiaia Grande is located along the Po river belt, in a zone bordering the Vercelli plain and the Monferrato hills. Its wide boundaries embrace the entire river section and hillside. Its central core is home to what was a river island until the middle of the last century. The natural environments are those typical of floodplains, where areas of riverbed with sparse vegetation alternate with lean grassland formations which have recolonized the sections of consolidated riverbed. The forest vegetation covers a considerable surface. In the oxbows, evidence of meanders of the river now abandoned by the current, there is a typical and interesting marsh environment that is home to several very rare protected
plant species.
