The name VILLADEATI comes from the Deati family who obtained the settlement as a fiefdom around 1300. The first documented proof is DE VILLA DE DEATIS, which dates to 1431. Arisen in medieval times, it was part of Asti for many years, and went under the name of Corte de Scataldeis. Subsequently, it became part of a military system that rested on two castles built in a position overlooking the Stura and Versa valleys. The first, belonging to the Visconti of Valenza, was destroyed by Amedeo di Savoia in 1290, following the request for help made by the people of Asti who were fighting against Guglielmo del Monferrato. In the mid-sixteenth century, the French marshal Charles Cossé de Brissac occupied the reconstructed manor house, buttress of the tower of Verrua. Conquered once again, by the Marquis Charles I and by the Duke of Mantua, in 1630, it was reduced to ruins, granted first to the noble family Del Prato and then to the Arrigoni family of Mantua. The latter sold what remained of the castle to the jurist Giacinto Magrelli.
