Tassarolo is an enchanting village situated in the province of Alessandria, Piedmont, nestled among the Monferrato hills. Its history is deeply rooted in Roman times, and it has become the ideal destination for those in search of culture, nature and food and wine traditions.
The origins of Tassarolo date back to Roman times, when it was a village connected with Libarna. In 1143, Pope Innocent II granted the "Libertas Romana" to the Benedictine Monastery of Santa Maria of Castiglione, and the church of Tassarolo was dependent on it. In the 13th century, the castle became a target contended by Alessandria and Genoa, suffering many sieges. In 1367, the Spinola brothers purchased the fief and, in 1560, Marcantonio Spinola obtained the title of Count of the Holy Roman Empire from Emperor Ferdinand I with the privilege of minting his own money.
