The village was contested between Asti and Vercelli until it was definitively controlled by Monferrato in the 13th century. Walking along the road towards the parish church, you can see traces of the ancient walls, of which the entrance gate and the guardhouse tower remain. At the entrance to the village, you can see Villa Mario, the house where Maria Sini Pavese hosted her brother Cesare, who was evacuated from Turin after September 8, 1943.
The Sacred Mount of Crea, whose construction influenced not only Serralunga but also the surrounding towns, is located in a splendid panoramic position and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It stands on an ancient site of Marian worship and was built between 1589 and 1612, with a further construction phase in the 1820s. It consists of the Sanctuary, 23 chapels, and 5 hermitages that wind along the devotional route (cover photo), immersed in a nature reserve.
