In ancient times, the municipality of Guazzora was called "Guadatorium" because a ferry service operated near the town.
In 1100, on the right bank of the Po, between the confluence of the Tanaro and Gogna rivers, there was a vast lake: the entrepreneurial charters of February 1183 and November 24, 1220, mention some settlements located on its banks, now disappeared. By 1224, Glarole to the east, the Desertum, the Cantarana, and the Rasia to the evening had already emerged, leaving behind the vast mortizia that in the first half of the 13th century saw the emergence of a settlement among its reeds, the "Curte Guazzatoria."

ARTISTIC NOTES

The parish church (Assumption), formerly the chapel of the Barnabite Fathers and adapted to its current form after the destruction of the previous church by a flood of the Po and Tanaro rivers, dates back to the 17th century. Inside, it preserves a Baroque altar of Genoese art and a mid-19th-century embossed copper statue of the Madonna.

The 18th-century villa known as the "Cassinone" was the summer residence of the Bishop of Tortona.

COAT OF ARMS AND GONFALON

The Civic Administration commemorates the Po and Tanaro rivers, which flow through the municipal district and make it extremely fertile, as evidenced by the cornucopia overflowing with peppers, onions, spinach, peas, zucchini, celery, and so on. The castle, however, recalls the grandiose medieval construction that defended the town, founded shortly after 1100 by the Corti family, who were also its first feudal lords; after 1500, the fiefdom passed to the Beccaria family.
The coat of arms depicts, in the first blue field, a red tower bricked in black, with five Guelph crenellations, closed and fenestrated with a black round window, founded on a green plain, and surmounted by a gold capital letter G. In the second red field, the coat of arms depicts a gold cornucopia, set on a pole, with the tip pointing downwards, crowned with gold ears of wheat, filled with natural fruit (from the municipal statute).
