Some Roman finds indicate that the first settlements were in the areas near Lignano Castle, which was a Roman noble villa before being transformed into a castle. In the upper part of the village is Sacchi-Nemours Castle, around which a fortified settlement was built in the Middle Ages. Not far away is the parish church of Maria Vergine Assunta, radically renovated in the 17th century.
The Municipality of Frassinello Monferrato is part of the core zone of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Monferrato degli Infernot", along with eight other municipalities in the area.
