The Church or Chapel of Montserrat is one of the few testimonies of the Spanish domination of Alessandria, the only one which is still well-preserved in its original forms. The veneration refers to the important shrine of the Madonna del Montserrat near Barcelona, commissioned by the governor Matheo de Otanez (1626) as can be read in the internal epigraph. In the niche at the entrance, the fresco depicts the Madonna of Montserrat, while inside there is a Black Madonna attributed to a Spanish artist of the 17th century.
