The Biopark for Dogs of Eastern Piedmont is located in Sarezzano (AL), in the heart of the Tortona hills, and extends over 40 hectares dedicated to the preservation of native Italian breeds, in particular working dogs and animals connected with the rural tradition and the work of man.
The project was launched in 2008 by Dario Capogrosso and his wife Alisa with the breeding of Pastore Transumante, specialized in the selection of guard dogs for the protection of flocks. Over time, the project has become a Biopark, joining protection of biodiversity, environmental education and promotion of livestock farming traditions.
Today, the park is a meeting point between preservation of biodiversity, environmental education and memory of Italian rural traditions.
Walking in the Biopark, visitors will meet extraordinary Italian breeds: the Pastore Maremmano-Abruzzese and the Pastore della Sila, excellent guardians; the Lagotti Romagnoli, masters of truffle hunting; the Girgentana and Nicastrese goats, Sopravissana sheep, Murgese horses, donkeys of Martina Franca and even the alpacas, introduced for educational activities and training of the guard dogs. Each animal lives in conditions that respect the rhythms and roles typical of the traditional rural life.
The Biopark offers authentic experiences in close contact with the animals: walks with alpacas, truffle hunting, visits to the dog nursery and educational trails. All require booking, to ensure the well being of the animals and the quality of the experience.
In addition to being a wildlife park, the Biopark for Dogs of Eastern Piedmont is a cultural center. Here we work to preserve the breeds at risk of extinction, spreading the knowledge of the livestock farming traditions and reflecting on the relationship between man, animals and the environment. A place where past and future meet, to tell the story of a rural Italy which carries into the future.
