The postwar period is the historic moment when city trade resumes. Those with initiative open new businesses leaving those which, on paper, could be considered secure jobs. One such case is Vincenzo
Cereda who, in 1947, left his job as sales assistant at Babilonia, an important shop specializing in the sale of fabrics, to open his own in via San Lorenzo. It is small, but in partnership with another sales assistant from Alessandria of the same sector, Virginio Panizza, he moves to a much bigger store a few months
later. That which today, in 2021, carries the name of the two founders: Cereda and Panizza.
They are joined in 1958 by a young Franco Cereda, son of Vincenzo, who works as an employee.
In 1971, at the death of his father, he enters into partnership with Virginio Panizza and from 1978, when the second founder also dies, he will continue the work of his father and friend until the third millennium.
Franco Cereda has always worked alongside his wife Renza Cresta. Since 1989,
the daughter Daria has continued the work of her mother. Renza Cresta can still be found among the counters and shelves which are still those of the last century.
