The Bar del Popolo of Cantalupo has a long history, dating back to 1885. From the second half of the 20th century, on 1 December 1968, Edoardo Capra and his wife Teresa Parodi take over the premises, a low construction on via Boidi, on the road which leads to Villa del Foro, from the Stornini family.
The meeting place has always been an authentic landmark of the suburb which is currently managed by the daughter Marisa Capra and brother Stefano. For a long time, in addition to the bar, it also had the grocery shop and a trattoria (until the mid-1980s) where “sumptuous convivial meetings” were held.
Over the years, particularly in recent times, the bar has changed. From the three rooms with a single billiard table there are now two large rooms; in one there are two new billiard tables, highly appreciated by those who play the game. In the area which leads to the front counter card games are played. Once the grocery store closed, the Capra family also managed the only newsagents of the village for some time, which has now closed down for good.
