The Museum Area hosts a selection of finds relating to the ornamental and decorative items of public buildings and of private houses from the Roman town of Libarna, providing a useful supplement to a visit to the archaeological site.
The G.F. Capurro Collection (1810-1882), owned by Accademia Filarmonica Artistico Letteraria of Novi Ligure, is primarily composed of fragments of capitals, cornices, architectural divisions and portions of decorative friezes. The most significant finds include the epigraph of the scribe Caius Catius Martialis (2nd century AD) and the central portion of a marble pinax, decorated on both sides with the heads of Pan and
Gorgon.
The most recently acquired finds include a fountain decorated with marine motifs, two small herms, some examples of tableware and clay lamps. The most precious find is the opus sectile emblem, which formed the central decoration of a paved area, dating back to the 2nd
century AD.
