"Ieri, oggi, domani. 85 anni al servizio del territorio"
The State Archive of Alessandria, after that of Turin, is the oldest State Archive in Piedmont. On Sunday 23 November 2025, the institute will celebrate its eighty-fifth anniversary (1940-2025), bearing witness to a long journey of protection, enhancement and service to
the territory.
A documentary video will be screened, in which the emeritus directors Nicola Vassallo and Giovanni Maria Panizza will retrace their professional experience and the efforts made to consolidate the role of the Archive as cultural center and landmark for the community of Alessandria and for the entire provincial territory.
To complete the initiative different types of documents will be exhibited, representative of the key acquisitions which have enriched the heritage of the Institute over these eighty-five years of
activity.
The celebration will also offer the opportunity to remember an important historical anniversary of the Italian archival administration: the fifty years of the passage of the archives from the Ministry of the Interior to the Ministry for Cultural and Environmental Heritage (today Ministry of Culture), introduced by law n°. 5 dated 29 January 1975, which officially recognized the primary historical and cultural value of the archives.
