On Friday, September 11, Tortona's Town Hall will host the presentation of the book "From the Russian Steppe to the German Prison Camps" and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque. This evening will be dedicated to the memory of the 38th Ravenna Infantry Regiment and the experiences of its soldiers, held at the historic Passalacqua Barracks, which once housed the Regiment. The event, promoted by the UNIRR Stradella-Oltrepò Section, with the patronage of the City of Tortona, will begin at 6:00 PM with a tour of the Town Hall and the former barracks. At 7:00 PM, the second edition of the book "From the Russian Steppe to the German Prison Camps – Odyssey of an Infantryman of the 38th Ravenna Infantry Regiment" will be presented, dedicated to the dramatic experience of a member of the Regiment during World War II. The meeting will feature Mayor Federico Chiodi, who will offer institutional greetings; the Honorable Paola Chiesa, group leader in the Defense Committee; Daniela Brandolini, daughter of veteran Mario Brandolini; and the author of the second edition, Manuele Carlo Riccardi; and Corrado D'Andrea, director of the Personal and Community Services Sector, who will discuss the topic "September 8, 1943 at the Passalacqua Barracks." Moderating will be Carlo Lupi, president of UNIRR Stradella-Oltrepò. The evening will also feature a screening of a short film produced by Italica Virtus, an association specializing in historical reenactment. A commemorative plaque will be unveiled at 8:30 pm, highlighting the connection between the city of Tortona, the Passalacqua Barracks, and the history of the 38th "Ravenna" Infantry Regiment. The event will continue with a buffet and will feature Italica Virtus reenactors in historical uniforms, with period vehicles and military memorabilia, offering the public a further opportunity to delve deeper into the Regiment's history. This initiative represents an opportunity to commemorate a significant chapter in Italian military history, specifically the events surrounding the Passalacqua Barracks, restoring to the city a historic site and the memory of the men who served there.
