“PALAZZI NELLA STORIA”
SATURDAY 3 AND SUNDAY 4 MAY
to mark the 857th Birthday of the City of Alessandria

“Palazzi nella Storia” is the event dedicated to the special opening of several palazzi and prestigious sites of the City, both public and private, usually partly inaccessible to the public or usually not considered in terms of their history and historic-artistic and architectural value.

"Palazzi nella Storia" is now in its third edition: the previous editions, in 2022 and 2024 were highly successful which saw a large number of visitors from outside Alessandria. Palazzi nella Storia is part of the program of events for the 857th birthday of the City of Alessandria.

The goal of the event is to "rediscover" the sites and palazzi which characterize the cultural beauty of Alessandria and enhance it as City of Art with a vast historic-architectural heritage representing different periods, from the Middle Ages to the Twentieth Century.

Palazzi nella Storia is organized by the Municipality of Alessandria, Alexala and ASM Costruire Insieme: our thanks go to Poste Italiane and Banco BPM for their collaboration.

The event will be held on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May and involve the following palazzi:

- Palazzo Municipale (home to the Town Hall - built as a theatre starting from 1772 by the architect Giuseppe Caselli, it was completed in 1830; interesting nineteenth century frescoes by Pietro Sassi);

- Palazzo Cuttica of Cassine (elegant palazzo of the late 17th century; the main floor is home to the Civic Museum);

- Palazzo delle Poste (post office headquarters of Alessandria – designed by the architect Franco Petrucci in 1939-41, the building is an example of rationalist architecture; the mosaic at the base of the facade was made to a drawing by Gino Severini),

- Banco BPM headquarters, already historic headquarters of Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria – the nineteenth century neoclassical facade conceals origins dating from the fifteenth century;

- Palazzo Ghilini (headquarters of the Provincial Authority – beautiful example of Piedmont Baroque, designed by the architect Benedetto Alfieri; it was completed in 1732).


These sites will be open on Saturday 3 May, in the afternoon, and on Sunday 4 May, in the morning and afternoon, and free guided tours (1h30m) will be given by licensed tour guides for groups of approximately 20 people.

The groups depart from in front of the main entrance of the Town Hall, under the arcades of Piazza della Libertà, at the following times:
 Saturday 3 May, afternoon: 3.30 and 5.30 p.m.
 Sunday 4 May, morning: 9.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m.
 Sunday 4 May, afternoon: 3.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m.

No booking required; the public can be admitted for each shift until capacity is reached; times and routes of the guided tours are organized to allow visitors to visit all of the palazzi..
