Genius Loci for the first time in Quargnento, between the 15th century and Futurism

Among the sites of interest, you will visit the Basilica of San Dalmazio, built from the 13th century, on an existing Roman structure dedicated to Diana destroyed by the Emperor Frederick I, known as Barbarossa, in the 12th century, and elevated to minor basilica in 1992 by Pope John Paul II; then, thanks to the availability of Gianfranco Peola, visit the birthplace of the painter Carlo Carrà who began his artistic career by approaching Divisionismo, before achieving international fame participating in Futurism; Carrà was also among the signatories of the Manifesto of Futurist Painters (1910) and co-founder of the Metaphysical Art Movement. During his artistic career, Carrà was also landscape artist and focused on the recovery of constructive solidity and the Italian artistic tradition, specifically of the 14th and 15th centuries. It will be possible to appreciate the following elements in the Basilica: the polyptych dedicated to Madonna and child with St. Peter and St. Dalmazio by Gandolfino da Roreto, a painter active in Piedmont during the early Renaissance; the figure of St. Dalmazio, present also in the fifteenth century altarpiece in terracotta, Late Gothic in style, by Francesco Filiberti.



Giorgio Cavallaro, Davide Guazzotti and Carlo Trussi from FAI and the guide Anna Maria Bruno will highlight the most significant artistic elements of the visited sites.



The afternoon will draw to a close with Collettivo Teatrale - CET who will pay tribute to Carrà by reading futurist texts which celebrate modernity, vitality and the free use of words. The Pro Loco Quadrigentum will organize refreshments.



Before the event (from 2 p.m.) it will be possible to climb up the bell tower of the basilica, to enjoy a sweeping view of the surrounding area.




Participants are requested to gather at 3 p.m. in piazza I Maggio opposite the Basilica of San Dalmazio where they will be welcomed by the mayor, and the president of the Province Luigi Benzi: "I am delighted that Quargnento is part of the circuit of initiatives organized by the ecomuseum, thereby increasing the opportunities to visit and learn about its historic, cultural, artistic and architectural heritage" declares Benzi. "The progressive addition of new towns into the Genius Loci format, as well as the revival of new activities in the areas already visited, confirm the merits of the initiative which contributes to the overall promotion and enhancement of local values, often, only partially known, offering a new, added and key cross-sectional interpretation", continues the President of the Ecomuseum Corrado Calvo.
