First a convent, then a barracks, and finally a hospital, the former Church of San Francesco in the convent complex of Alessandria has seen its function change over the centuries amidst alternating
historical events.
The various investigation, conservation, and restoration projects that have taken place over the course of twenty-five years,
and in particular the architectural restoration project begun in 2022 and concluded in recent weeks, have allowed the recovery and reappropriation of a historic and artistic asset that had been hidden from public view for over 200 years
and unknown to most.
With the internal architecture and artistic heritage once again visible, the restoration of the former Church of San Francesco, destined to become a museum and a cultural center of excellence, constitutes an example of heritage protection and valorization, capable of bringing history into dialogue with future generations.
For this reason, the ASM Costruire Insieme company has prepared a program of free guided tours, always starting at 4 pm, every day from May 30th to June 2nd and on Saturdays and Sundays from June 6th to 28th 2026.
