JEWISH COMMUNITY OF CASALE THE CELEBRATIONS FOR NATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY

On 25 January 2026 the Jewish Community of Casale Monferrato commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day at the complex on Vicolo Salomone Olper. There will be four moments to retrace the tragic events of the Shoah and the stories of the victims of Nazi-Fascist deportation, designed above all to show a long and fruitful collaboration between the community and schools of the area. A tangible way to project memory into the future.
The first event is programmed for 11 a.m. in Sala Carmi, with the inauguration of the exhibition Raccogliere Memoria that will showcase multimedia and interactive projects of local schools which can be found in the portal raccoglierememoria.casalebraica.org and which will now be donated to the Jewish Community. Presented in February 2015, the project has created a digital site in which to collect and hand down the history of the Shoah in Monferrato. A collection of objects, and personal accounts and, at the same time, a place of production for new tools and works used to remember. In a year of activity, the portal has already enriched itself with lots of activities, all to explore in the various sections of the website.
At 11.30 a.m. presentation of a board game, with a practical demonstration, which is also part of the project. It is called “Il bivio. Giochiamo per ricordare” and was the winning project of the ministerial competition “I giovani ricordano la Shoah” in 2025. It will be presented by its creators, the students of the 5th class of the Primary school of Occimiano together with teachers Valeria Turino and Sara Faroni.
In the afternoon, at 3 p.m. always in Sala Carmi, screening of the film “La memoria delle donne – Storie e voci femminili dalla Comunità Ebraica di Casale Monferrato”. The authors, Max Biglia, Luca Percivalle and the students of the 5th class of the Primary School of San Giorgio will be present. The day will end with a very touching moment at the Memorial of the Shoah, next to the entrance to the Synagogue. In the presence of local authorities the 63 names of the citizens of Casale Monferrato deported to the concentration camps will be read out. The Yizkor will be recited: the prayer in memory of all the victims of the Shoah and seven lights will be lit, one for every million Jews and another for all the other victims killed for political, religious, ethnic and sexual identity reasons.
The other activity, which will actively involve the Jewish Community, will be held on the morning of 27 January at 10:30 a.m. with the participation in the initiative of the City of Casale Monferrato which includes the laying of the laurel wreath in honor of the victims of the Shoah, in Via Alessandria, close to the hinge on which the gate of the Ghetto rested.
