From July 13th to September 18th, ATTRAVERSO FESTIVAL resumes its journey through the Langhe, Roero, Monferrato, and Piedmontese Apennines, UNESCO lands that since 2016 have provided the natural backdrop for a festival spread across the Piedmontese villages. Over its ten editions, it has hosted 300 events in over 50 different locations. The 11th edition offers over 40 events in nearly 30 municipalities in the provinces of Asti, Alessandria, and Cuneo, intertwining theater, music, literature, scientific dissemination, and philosophy in complementary languages that entertain, excite, and reflect on the present. For these reasons, Attraverso has chosen #pop as the guiding principle for the 2026 edition.
"Pop" is a beautiful adjective, despite having been unfairly mistreated over the years. Reevaluating it is a duty. "—say artistic directors Paola Farinetti and Simona Ressico—"It comes directly from "people," and there's nothing more beautiful than the people, which is all of us. ATTRAVERSO has chosen #pop as the guiding word for the 2026 edition because, like never before, we'll be exploring every genre of entertainment, and like never before, we'll be trying to reach everyone through laughter, music, theater, and profound reflections on the times we live in. And then, because being a popular festival spanning nearly 30 municipalities is a truly wonderful thing, and we're proud of it."
The journey encompasses emotions and peripheries, with Stefano Massini evoking The Pursuit of Happiness in Cherasco and deciphering The Alphabet of Emotions in Cassano Spinola, followed by Ascanio Celestini giving voice to the Poveri Cristi in Alba about forgotten lives, while Domenico Iannacone brings real stories to Che ci faccio qui, a theatrical reportage in La Morra and Cassano Spinola. The show shifts to identity and rebirth, with Paolo Rossi in Alba transforming family conflicts into his satirical Operaccia – Honor Your Fathers and Pay the Psychologist, accompanied by Caterina Gabanella, Emanuela Dell'Aquila, and Alex Orciari. Ambra Angiolini presents her directorial debut, The Mysterious Disappearance of W by Stefano Benni, with music by Dardust, a tragicomic soliloquy on self-reconstruction, in the courtyard of Palazzo Langosco in Casale Monferrato. Giuseppe Cederna blends words, poetry, and memory in Maestri with Walter Porro and Nicola Testa in Rocchetta Palafea and Spigno.
Global challenges, war, politics, the environment, and health take shape with Francesco Costa analyzing Trump's legacy in Pozzolo Formigaro and Nizza Monferrato. Cecilia Sala offers a look at contemporary conflicts in Bra. Mario Tozzi explores 50 Shades of Sapiens at Parco Capanne di Marcarolo. Francesca Santolini discusses climate and politics in Gavi to imagine a sustainable future for humanity and the planet.
Everyday irony endures with Luca Bizzarri, who from Casale Monferrato to Canelli and Savigliano evolves Non Hanno Un Amico into Non hanno un dubbio, capturing the spirit of current events; Maurizio Lastrico, at Tenuta La Centuriona in Gavi, dissects humanity in Sul Lastrico, a blend of theater and stand-up; Federico Basso, who makes his Attraverso Festival debut with Profilo Basso in Nizza Monferrato and Grinzane Cavour; and Paolo Ruffini, who meditates on time in Presente in Saluzzo and Rocca Grimalda. Stand-up becomes cutting with Laura Formenti, who in Trisobbio reflects on life and change in Io mortah live; Yoko Yamada, who in Alba debunks current affairs and contradictions in Stellina Scintillina; and Eleazaro Rossi, who in Novi Ligure and Cherasco brings ruthless self-criticism in Kamikaze.
Music by renowned composers will undoubtedly enliven the journey, with Niccolò Fabi at La Zizzola Park in Bra, opening with the winner of the 2026 Gianmaria Testa Prize, Chiaré; Aldo Cazzullo and Angelo Branduardi in Busca weave a dialogue on Saint Francis between memory and music; Elio Germano and Theo Teardo adapt Pasolini's play "The Dream of a Thing" in the summer arena of the Teatro Sociale in Alba; Federico Buffa, with his ability to narrate and engage, moves beyond sports and revives Lucio Dalla's "The Last 48 Hours" in Mornese; and music teller Federico Sacchi explores Paolo Conte in "I Came to Play" in Ovada and Savigliano.
Knowledge becomes engaging passion with Alessandro Barbero, who in Alessandria reveals the (True) Story of Saint Francis; Matteo Saudino, who in Rocchetta Palafea unites East and West in "Maya and Zarathustra"; and Vincenzo Schettini, who in San Cristoforo, with interactive experiments, brings the Physics of Summer to life. Relationships and bonds between ourselves and others are explored in depth with Roberta Bruzzone, who dissects dark dynamics in "Love Me to Death" in Saluzzo; Stefania Andreoli, who opens "Il Venerdì delle parole live" at Tenuta La Bollina in Serravalle Scrivia; and Paolo Mazzarello, who narrates greatness and misery in "The History of Medicine as an Adventure" in Gamalero.
