Athletes + Le Palestriti

4:30 PM – Athletes.
Athletes is a project combining dance, sport, and vocals that places the athletic gesture of a community of women, or people who identify as women, at the center of its research and practice as an act of resistance and transformative strength.
In its etymology and in the collective imagination, athleticism is associated with the idea of competition and physical prowess: the body's ability to demonstrate strength, agility, and endurance, but also to build alliances, agreements, and trajectories of exchange. In Athletes, athleticism represents every degree of transformation that bodies can seek through gesture and its manifestation in the performance.

6:00 PM – Le Palestriti.
The work is inspired by the Palestriti mosaic in Piazza Armerina, Sicily, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a rare representation of ancient female competitiveness. Here, the athletes not only exalt the power of individual gestures but also celebrate the victor, transforming athleticism into an act of alliance and unity. In the choreographic framework, the coming together of bodies toward a shared and dizzying experience emerges as an indispensable necessity. The performers disseminate a grammar of gestures and vocalizations in which the emergence of individual presences becomes the emergence of a collective body. Le Palestriti develops a raw and fluid physicality, with feral waves that transform the space: from gymnasium to porous territory, a crossroads of rituals and gestural alphabets suspended between strength and grace, between practices of resistance and transformation.
