The events in Alessandria to mark the Bicentenary of Napoleon's death are continuing. The connection between the town and Napoleon is undoubtedly the historic victorious battle of Marengo of the 14th June 1800. The town of Alessandria celebrates the historic event with an immersive re-enactment of the battle, between Villa Delavo, site of the Marengo Museum, its Park and the lands that surround the complex, with the participation of officers, horses and riders.

On 12 and 13 June in Marengo, we will witness the battle live with more than a hundred re-enactors from different European countries that will "clash" wearing the uniforms of the time and with majestic horses and riders who will parade in the areas of the clash. With the Armèe d'Italie (General Staff), the 59ème Demi Brigade d’Infant de Ligne of Marengo on the French front and the Austrian Grenadiers 26th Infantry Regiment and the 1st Jaeger Vienna. The Gruppo Storico Montichiari, the bersaglieri from Brescia, the 4ème Règiment d’Artillerie, will meet up on the Saturday to setup the camps and prepare, with battle training demonstrations. The historical-cultural Association Amaltea will repropose the settings of the encampments and of the civilians following the army. Between guns, tents, canons, swords and horses you can relive the atmosphere of the hours preceding the battle. On the evening of 12 June from 20,30 the re-enactment of the "petite bataille" the battle which anticipates the battle on 14 June.

Sunday 13 June will be dedicated to the official commemorations: at the monumental column with the Eagle of Marengo and subsequently the honours at the monument of Napoleon First Consul at the ossuary of the fallen in battle and at General Desaix.

Always on 13 June, from 15.00, the Lectio Magistralis, by the Napoleonic scholar from Alessandria Prof. Giulio Massobrio "14 June 1800-La battaglia di Marengo fra storia verticale e storia orrizontale.". The initiative will be held in the area next to the Entrance Pyramid to the Marengo Museum.

And, naturally, the Marengo Museum, dedicated to the Battle, will be open to visitors to discover the details of the strategies of the victory of Napoleon and the characters who have gone down in history with him.
The Museum will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 19.


Over the commemorative weekend, a series of historical-cultural initiatives will be held connected with the Napoleonic period. They will be organised by the Unione Giornalisti and Communicatori. On Saturday 12 June, at 18, in the Marengo Auditorium, presentation of the volume "Gli Assedi di Napoleone”, a work specifically dedicated to siege warfare in Italy from 1796 to 1814, by the Associazione Napoleonica d'Italia. Sunday 13 June, will see the celebration of the 220 years of the laying of the column with the Eagle of Marengo, with a reconstruction of the events connected with this important symbol of Napoleon’s victory.
