Some archaeological finds suggest the existence of a settlement under the rule of the Roman Empire. In the 4th century AD, the evangelization by the Holy Bishop Eusebius is believed to have begun the centuries-long dependence on Vercelli.
The construction of the first church, commissioned by the noble Emiliano II, a local feudal lord, dates back to the 7th century.
In 1197, it was established as a Borgo Franco (Free Municipality), with a deed drawn up by the Cosignori of Vercelli.
Among the historic buildings are:
- the Parish Church of Sant'Emiliano, rebuilt several times over the ancient church of Sant'Emiliano, whose title appears for the first time at the end of the 13th century in a papal decree granting the Archbishop of Vercelli.
- the Church of San Michele Arcangelo, built in the first half of the 17th century by the company of the same name, was rebuilt in the following century. Closed for worship and restored, it is used as an auditorium.
