Stazzano is located at the confluence of the Borbera and Scrivia rivers. The name likely originates from the gens Statia or Statio (stop, resting place), who in the area, not far from Roman Libarna, must have held possessions between the Scrivia and Borbera valleys.
Places of interest include Stazzano Castle, built in the Middle Ages; the Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart, by architect Giulio Leale; and the Sanctuary of Monte Spineto, which stands atop the mountain of the same name (459 m). There is also the Civic Museum of Natural History, founded in 1980 on the initiative of the Stazzano Naturalists Group, and housed in Villa Gardella. It houses an important collection of minerals and fossils, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and plants, and is divided into five rooms.
Various events take place throughout the year, including the spring fair in May, the carnival, the chicken festival in June, and the feast of San Giorgio, the town's patron saint.
