A lowland town nestled on the left bank of the Curone River, it is a town of ancient origins, whose economy is based on agriculture, industry, and commerce. It is the birthplace of Saint Luigi Orione, founder of the Little Work of Divine Providence.
The name derives from the Latin pons Coronis or pontis Coronis, an obvious reference to the bridge over the Curone River, protected in ancient times by the Knights Templar.
