Mongiardino Ligure is a small mountainous village situated in the upper Val Sisola, in the province of Alessandria, bordering with Liguria. The origins of the village date back to Roman times, when it was an important point of passage along the road that connected Genoa to Oltrepò Pavese. Over the centuries, the village was under the rule of various families including the Malaspina, the Fieschi and the Savoy. In 1863, the municipality took on the name of "Mongiardino Ligure".
The historic center of Mongiardino Ligure is characterized by stone houses and narrow picturesque streets, offering an evocative atmosphere and a territory rich in history and traditions.
The Church of San Lorenzo, dating back to the 13th century, is one of the major religious sites of the village. It has a simple facade and a sober interior, typical of medieval religious constructions.
In the center of the village, the remains of a medieval castle bear witness to its strategic importance over the centuries.
Mongiardino Ligure is surrounded by a mountainous landscape, ideal for hikes and walks. The local trails offer the opportunity to explore the flora and fauna of the region, with breathtaking views of the valleys and surrounding mountains.
