The landscape of the Erro Valley gradually becomes more rugged, the crops giving way to woods. Malvicino is a gem of a village, a hamlet with a few ancient houses clustered around a square.

The most reliable and earliest record of Malvicino dates back to 1179, when Pope Alexander III's "privilege" for the monastery of San Quintino di Spigno mentions the ancient parish church of San Michele, which still exists and has been splendidly restored. Presumably around 1483, Malvicino achieved autonomy from Montechiaro and passed into the political orbit of Spigno, governed by the Del Carretto family. In 1579, following the extinction of the Del Carretto family, Spigno, along with Malvicino, were enfeoffed by the emperor to the Asinari family of San Marzano. In 1670, with the decline of the Asinari dynasty, Malvicino came under the rule of the Invrea family. Finally, in 1724, the Empire sold the Marquisate of Spigno to the House of Savoy.

Places to visit: the rustic Renaissance church and a country parish church dedicated to San Michele, an ancient Romanesque church, and the oratory, now the town hall and used for exhibitions and cultural events.
