Bozzole stands opposite Pomaro Castle, on the plain, a few hundred meters from the Po River. The name is open to various interpretations: it may reflect the name of the forest, a perennial, evergreen shrub of the Buxaceae family, with small, leathery, shiny leaves and very hard wood. Carlo Nigra recalls the word bozolus: scrub bramble, hedge bramble, meaning hawthorn. Or it may derive from the Piedmontese dialect word boza, bosa, meaning small puddle, flooded place.
