Basaluzzo is a charming village situated in the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont, nestled among the hills that separate the valleys of Rivers Lemme and Scriva. This municipality, which merges history, traditions and natural beauty, is an ideal location for those in search of an authentic experience in the heart of rural Piedmont. The origins of Basaluzzo date back to the first millenium B.C. when the Ligurian people from Spain settled in the valley between the Rivers Orba and Lemme. Subsequently conquered by the Romans, the village was called Bis Lucus ("between two woods"), which gives the village its name. Over the centuries, Basaluzzo came under the rule of the Duchy of Milan, the Grillo of Mondragone and, finally, the Savoia. In 1799, it was the scene of the Battle of Novi, a battle between the French and Austro-Russian troops.
Walking in the historic center of Basaluzzo, you can admire the pebbled streets, stone houses and traditional architecture which reflects centuries of history. The urban center maintains the use of rammed earth, a typical construction technique of the area.
The village is dominated by the medieval castle of Clarefuentes which features a massive watchtower, bearing witness to the strategic importance of the village in the past. The Parish church of Sant'Andrea dates from the 15th century and presents a Romanesque-Gothic style. Inside, it is possible to admire sacred works of art which reflect the spirituality and history of the community.
