LA MITICA

LaMITICA, a stage of the Giro d'Italia d'Epoca vintage cycling circuit, starts and finishes in Castellania Coppi to celebrate the figure of the great champion Fausto Coppi and his brother Serse. It offers a choice of three routes, some of which are "strada bianche" (white road) to evoke the epic cycling of yesteryear, offering the opportunity to ride a vintage bicycle according to your level of fitness and preparation: from the less demanding 55km Short Route to the 85km Long Route, up to the more demanding almost 100km Hors Catégorie (Hors Catégorie) for the most "grimpeur" vintage cyclists, dedicated to Costante Girardengo and Andrea "Sandrino" Carrea, one of Fausto's faithful teammates and "guardian angel." Over the years, LaMITICA, thanks of course to the figure of Fausto Coppi, has managed to win the hearts of countless cycle tourists and vintage cycling rallies enthusiasts from every continent.

Every last weekend in June, the small village of Castellania Coppi, birthplace and final resting place of Serse and Fausto Coppi, becomes the center of attention thanks to LaMITICA Ciclostorica, reenacting the cycling races of years past. At the starting line, the colorful wool jerseys of the great teams and the legendary bicycles that have made cycling history, brought back to life by countless enthusiasts and collectors, stage a pedal-powered parade through a magnificent setting of hills, vineyards, villages, and landscapes. The passage and stopover of LaMITICA transforms the towns it passes through into a colorful celebration, as happens, for example, in Tortona, where, thanks to the Bellezze in Bicicletta/Tortona Retrò event, the legendary cyclostorici are accompanied by a joyful and festive welcome in perfect retro style.
The longer Hors Catégorie route, 98 km and 860 metres of elevation gain, passes through the centre of Novi Ligure, crosses the Gavi vineyards and includes a refreshment stop at Villa La Bollina, before tackling the famous Rampina climb.

Online registration is open from February 20th to June 21st. After June 21st, only registrations for Castellania Coppi on June 27th and 28th will be accepted.
