This exhilarating, subtle, deep monologue, is so rich in characters to resemble a comedy. The special feature is that all these characters are interpreted by a single actor who transforms both word and voice. An extraordinary acting test or, better still, a great opportunity.
It is a text in which there is a lot of laughter, due reflections are made on family conditioning, and it is understood how any (re)birth, can be providential, hoped for, or necessary, even when it has to do with a coming-out in the reverse. That of Guillaume, the protagonist of the story.
The misunderstanding is already created in the title, not so much in the cinema version, "Tutto sua Madre" but in the original Theatre version, Les garçon et Guillaume, à table, because the garcons, the boys, who are nothing but the brothers of Guillaume, are males, handsome and testosterone-driven, while Guillaume is the exact opposite.
Unpalatable to his father and brothers, he will find himself imitating and bringing to life the women he has imagined or known, slowly becoming Princess Sissi, the Archduchess Sofia, a perfect Andalusian ballerina, his granny, his auntie. In short, any woman he observes or admires. More than anything else he finds himself pleasing and idolizing his mother, to whom he wants to prove to be unique. In this ongoing search, Guillaume tries to become his mother in all her nuances, in every characteristic; for this reason, the family thinks he is effeminate.
Despite tricks and cajoling, identity crisis, princesses and swashes, exhilarating misunderstandings, his true nature will emerge in a kind of coming-out in the reverse. The story will take a bizarre and unexpected turn, which will make him meet a girl, "his" girl with whom he finally discovers the possibility to have a different kind of love. And real, what he has always wanted.
The show is above all the story of a young man and then a man who, through difficulties and adventures, tries to assert his sexual identity in a family who, instead, is quick to brand him homosexual.
