Tullio Solenghi and Elisabetta Pozzi, joined by a
company of young actors, duet in Govi’s piece de
resistance as close to the original as has ever been
seen. Solenghi, who is also the director of the show
has declared that he will “gently fall into the
role and gestures of Gilberto Govi assimilating every
fragment, syllable and atom.” An act of love towards
the great Genoese actor and a gift to today’s public.
For the first time, at the theatre, it can feel an emotion
like that of the audience who was lucky enough to applaud
the living Govi. With this show, Solenghi finally makes
one of his old dreams come true: transform his face
into the mask-Govi. «It was clear to me from the start
– writes Solenghi in the director's notes - that what I had
before me was an authentic "mask" of comedy, and in
the same way that I would not feel any embarrassment
in reproducing the scenic "print" of a Harlequin, I will let
myself gently fall into the role and gestures of Gilberto Govi
assimilating his every fragment, syllable, atom. I would
not hesitate to define it as sort of stimulating "archaeological
theatre".
