Description
The 2023/2024 theatre season of the Marenco Theatre of Novi Ligure continues with the show "Davidson", taken from the play "Il Padre Selvaggio" by Pier Paolo Pasolini, written in 1963 and published posthumously in 1975. The director found no one to finance him, afraid of his freedom of thought, and so the film was never made. It is the story of Davidson, a sensitive and intelligent black boy from a tribe in Africa, and of his meeting with a progressive and tormented teacher, a borderline figure alter ego of the same Pasolini. A hybrid text which mixes different languages and codes and precisely in the absence of its realization offers a great expressive potential.


An indefinite form, with visual qualities that lend themselves to a danced staging, in a vertigo between literary work and physical theatre. This suspended work tells above all of the conflict between the teacher and Davidson: the heart of this contrast is the dilemma of the relationship between whites and blacks, the problem of freedom and democracy, tension towards the other than oneself.
