9:30 Participants meet at the motorway exits (and/or railway station). A private coach will take to the departure point, the Citadel of Alessandria, where there will be a licensed guide waiting equipped with microphone and headset system.
Visit of the fortress
At the end of the visit, passing over the scenic Meier bridge and a delightful walk along the streets of Borgo Rovereto, we will reach the Church of Santa Maria di Castello and its medieval walls that bear witness to its existence before the town was founded.
The route will take us to Piazza Libertà, the adminstrative centre of Alessandria, with the Palazzo del Comune (current Town Hall) or Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Ghilini or the Prefecture, Palatium Vetus (the first town hall) and Palazzo delle Poste e Telefgrafi (Post and Telegraph building) example of rationalism with mosaics by Severini, signatory of the Manifesto of Futurist painters of 1910.
Passing through Galleria Guerci, the Liberty lounge in the heart of the town centre, stop for brunch in one of the De.Co certififed pastry shops where you can taste the Polenta di Marengo ®.
Following the stop, strolling along the main street, Corso Roma, we will reach the meeting point in Piazza Garibaldi, one of the largest squares with arches in Piedmont built in the late 1800s. Transfer by coach to Marengo, a few kilometres from Alessandria.
Along the way, we can see several palazzi by Ignazio Gardella, one of the key protagonists of Italian rationalism: Housing for Borsalino employees, the Agorà Complex, Borsalino Fur Cutting workshop.
Having arrived in Marengo, visit the Museum that tells the story of the battle which gave way to the myth of Napoleon with his victory over the Austrians in 1800. The visit will end with a tour of Villa Delavo built to magnify the deeds of Napoleon.
Return to Alessandria and check-in at the Hotel Alli Due Buoi Rossi for the overnight stay.
Dinner with local cuisine at a characteristic Osteria in the centre.
8:30 after breakfast meet with the guide and depart by bus to visit Tortona: the Sanctuary of Madonna della Guardia, the Cathedral, the Bishop's Palace, the Medieval House, Via Emilia, Santa Maria Canale, Palazzo Guidobono and Palazzo Passalacqua.
Depart for Viguzzolo and stop in a local agriturismo for lunch.
Depart for Volpedo, the village which tells the stories of the paintings of Giuseppe Pelizza from Volpedo. Visit the Romanesque Church, the Study and Museum of Pellizza da Volpedo.
Depart for Val Curone and visit San Sebastiano Curone and the hills to enjoy a magnificent panorama.
Return to Alessandria and depart for the meeting place to return to own destinations.
