ALESSANDRIA - INFERNOT & WINE

Alessandria
01/06/2021 - 30/09/2021

Experience

Business description

An itinerary to discover the town of Alessandria from the Middle Ages to Divisionism, and with the myth of Napoleon whose victory in Marengo on 14 June 1800 gave way to the myth.

The connection of the town of Alessandria with Napoleon is palpable; the town still preserves the medieval star-shaped centre and the charm of discrete town that was subjected to the impulse of deep change even after the fall of Bonaparte. It was precisely in those years that the layout of the town was rationalised. Architects and engineers were trained during Napoleon’s era and they transformed Alessandria giving it the look it has today.

The second day we will discover the Infernots, a UNESCO world heritage site, and visit a winery of Monferrato to taste the local wine and products.

The infernots are the precious heritage of local traditions, underground cavities built under the houses that exploit the geological characteristics of the ground commonly called "tufo" and used to store the foods because of their ability to keep a constant temperature and humidity throughout the year.

The itinerary will continue with the visit of the Bricherasio Chapel:

Inside the funeral crypt are preserved some of the most significant works of the sculptor Leonardo Bistolfi.

Short transfer to Vignale Monferrato to a renowned winery with its magnificent panoramic terrace overlooking the surrounding vineyards. Tasting of local wines and products. Return to Alessandria and end of services.
