Description
Vittore Fossati. Effetti Personali - Fotografie 1981-2018 is the new exhibition project at the Art Rooms of Alessandria, which traces some of the milestones of the professional history of Vittore Fossati, a photographer from Alessandria.

The exhibition, which will be inaugurated on 3 October 2024 is curated by Vittore Fossati and Giovanna Calvenzi and presents close to seventy works from seven projects
of the artist during his career, from 1981 to 2018.

The suggested route to follow begins with the section “Viaggio in Italia”, composed by two photographs (Oviglio, 1981 and Santo Stefano Belbo, 1983) exhibited in 1984 in the famous collective exhibition
curated by Luigi Ghirri, Gianni Leone and Enzo Velati. Followed by “Belle Arti”, with photographs taken from 1993 to 1996 in the place where the painter and potter Bruno Severino (1953-2018) worked for several years. The choice of photographs on show here is preceded by one of his own portraits from the series “Frammenti” (1994). The sections “Osservazioni fotografiche lungo il corso del torrente Scrivia”, of 1996 and “Viaggio in un paesaggio terrestre” taken by four hands with the writer Giorgio
Messori between 1997 and 2002, a selection of 20 photographs among the 40 kept in the photo collection of the Panizzi Library of Reggio Emilia. The route continues with “Storie immaginate in luoghi reali”, of 2007, four photographs of the project by Fossati for the Contemporary Photograph Museum of Cinisello Balsamo-Milano and “Il Tanaro a Masio” which records stops and reflections on the banks of the river
from 2012 to 2018.
The journey ends with the section “Dove sono i Pirenei”, with photos taken in 2015 “in some of the best known places of the Pyrenees, alternated with extravagant reproductions of postcards and book illustrations", as specified by the same photographer.

The exhibition is accompanied by the catalog "Lungo il corso del torrente Scrivia" which presents twenty-one photos by Vittore Fossati and a text by Mario Mantelli, originally written for the collective volume "Un posto già visto" which dealt with a selection of photographs of the sole location of Libarna.

The exhibition is organized by ASM Costruire Insieme and the Town of Alessandria with the collaboration of Alexala Local Tourist Board for the Province of Alessandria to promote the area.
The exhibition avails of the contribution of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria within the project "Alessandria e i grandi maestri della
fotografia. La cultura per la comunità e lo sviluppo locale" originated from the experience of the exhibition of Gabriele Basilico
"Ritorni a Beirut" of 2023 and consolidated with the exhibition of Gianni Berengo Gardin "Cose mai viste" both hosted in Alessandria and organized by the ASM Costruire Insieme and by the Municipality of Alessandria.
