Pittaluga International Classical Guitar Competition - "Città di Alessandria" Award

Dates

Description
55th edition of the Michele Pittaluga International Classical Guitar Competition which transforms Alessandria into the classical guitar capital for a week.
This edition of the competition is specifically dedicated to Alirio Diaz on the centenary of his birth. An outstanding Venezuelan guitarist, he was closely connected from the very beginning with the prestigious Competition of which he was the unforgettable Artistic Director and Honorary Citizen of our city in 1983.
The "Pittaluga" is the oldest Italian competition dedicated to the guitar, born under the auspices of Andres Segovia and continued, as previously said, with the Artistic Direction of Alirio Diaz and now Marco Diaz Tamayo, and it is the only competition in the world for guitar member of WFIMC-World Federation of International Music Competitions of Geneva.
Honoured with the Gold Medal of the Presidency of the Italian Republic since 1997, awarded by foreign cultural institutions and foundations, it is held every year with the sponsorship of the UNESCO National Commission.

Info
In honour of Alirio Diaz, the piece entitled "Seis por derecho" by the composer Antonio Lauro, performed countless times and dearly loved by the Venezuelan guitarist, has been inserted among the compulsory pieces of the eliminating rounds; furthermore, a choice of concerts for guitar and orchestra of Latin American composers, such as Villa-Lobos and Ponce, has been proposed for the final.
The Competition, open to classic guitar soloists of every nationality up to 33 years of age, will take place with the eliminating rounds at the Antonio Vivaldi State Music Conservatory and the evening of the "FINAL", open to the public, at the Alessandrino Teatro on Via Verdi.
The latter will start at 8.30 pm and see the participation of the Classic Orchestra of Alessandria directed by the Maestro Paolo Ferrara, and during the Jury voting, the special guest will be Vera Danilina, the last winner of
the Pittaluga Award.
ADMISSION to the evening of the 30 September is FREE until seats are
available.

This year's programme, which can be consulted in the BOOKLET OF COMPETITORS in "Attachments" is particularly detailed and able to intercept diverse interests for the community of Alessandria and for the national and international
audience.
