"L'IMPERATORE DELLE NUVOLE" BY PIERPAOLO VETTORI


On Tuesday 12 November, at 5:30 p.m. the "Francesca Calvo" civic library of Piazza Vittorio Veneto 1 in Alessandria will host the presentation of the book “L'imperatore delle nuvole” written by Pierpaolo Vettori and published by Neri Pozza.

The author, spurred on by the questions of Paola Giordano, teacher of literature at the "G. Galilei" Scientific High School of Alessandria, will talk about his literary world presenting his recent novel “L'imperatore delle nuvole”, which has reached the finals of prestigious literary awards.


SUMMARY
After 2026. From a distance it seems like a fairy tale construction: a long fortified line of a dazzling white color which crosses four North African Countries. Further on, a strip of chemically deserted land; further on again, the Mediterranean. Welcome to the Wall, impassable barrier for the damned of the Earth who attempt to cross it but also alternative tourist destination for the rich people of the world: the radical solution to the problem of illegal immigration. Franco Zomer is a wall guard, like his father before him; by day, after pretending to check their documents, he sends back the migrants who try to cross the border. After sunset, the illegals arrive - who have no document - whose destiny is often decided in a violent way. The work of the wall guards is a brutal ritualized charade, the rules in force are merciless: no one must pass. Whoever lets a migrant slip through ends up in the Punishment Room. To resist the law of cruelty, everyone at the Wall uses amphetamines and stimulants, until the local gangs flood the market with a new substance. the Moby Dick. The effect is extraordinary: you can relive a moment of your past, change your wrong or fatal decisions and modify your destiny. The illusion of reality is perfect, the addiction is powerful and immediate. Moby Dick is spreading uncontrollably like an epidemic, among the desperate and the tormentors. Annihilated by the suffering which he sees every day and which he often directly inflicts, Franco Zomer would also like to turn back the clock to that fateful day when he was still happy. A time in which he could move the clouds in the sky with a finger and everything was still possible. This is the only way he can imagine the future, a future with the face of Penelope, the woman he sees every time he closes his eyes.



The UBIK bookshop of Alessandria will also be represented at the event.
The initiative is organized by the Municipal Administration of Alessandria, the "Francesca Calvo" Civic Library and by ASM Costruire Insieme.
