Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September: Monferrato awaits you for a full immersion of cycling among hills, dirt roads, vineyards, castles, and medieval villages UNESCO heritage site for the vineyard landscape and infernots.
Flying start on Saturday 3 September with the Monsterrato Race, a medium and long-distance competitive race, 9th stage of the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) Gravel World Series, world circuit of 13 trials spread over 4 continents. Those registered must compete over two routes with mixed terrain of dirt/asphalt roads: the long section of approx. 125 km, the medium section of approx. 65 km. The Monsterrato Race is reserved to gravel bikes, mountain bikes and cyclocross bikes, period and vintage bikes with fat tyres and is also valid as a qualifier for the World Gravel Championships scheduled in Veneto for 8 and 9 October.
Once La Monsterrato Race is over, the weekend programme will continue Sunday 4 September with the 6th Monsterrato Strade Bianche Monferrato ‘randonnée’ cycling event on the same routes that hosted the race the day before. The feasibility of a third route of 150 km is under consideration. The 6th La Monsterrato is non-competitive and open to gravel bikes, mountain bikes, cyclocross bikes, period and vintage bikes with fat tyres and also to e-bikes. It will gently cross many small villages of Monferrato of the Alessandria, Casale and Asti areas.
Registrations for the Monsterrato Race and the Monferrato Strade Bianche Monferrato are reserved to holders of sports medical certificates of fitness for competitive cycling.
Our magnificent dirt roads will reign supreme on the weekend of 3-4 September: a wonderful richness to be protected which is just waiting to be rediscovered and enhanced by events like La Monsterrato to transform Monferrato into the new international cycle tourism circuit. The great natural advantage compared to other Regions is the geographical position which places Monferrato at just 50 minutes away by motorway from Milan, Turin and Genoa and from the international airport of Milan-Malpensa. There is also the added opportunity of taking guided tours of vineyards, wineries, museums and monuments, visits which will be particularly enjoyed by the companions of the cycle tourists of La Monsterrato.
