In Piedmont, at one - hour drive from Milan, Turin and Genoa, and not far away from the French and Swiss borders, the Province of Alessandria lies in a vast land between the Alps and the Liguria Sea. It is one of the cultural, artistic and economic hearts of the region. Its territory, which features the Monferrato hills (to the South and North of the Tanaro river), also includes, down to the south, Ligurias Appennines, with their high peaks, such as mount Ebro (1699 mt), mount Legna (1670) and mount Antola (1597 mt). At the centre, a large plain is crossed through by the Tanaro, the Po and the Scrivia rivers, with the towns of Alessandria, Tortona and Novi Ligure. The mountain areas, connected with the Alps and the Appennines, host four rural communities:
The most important towns, besides Alessandria, developed thanks to their positions on major communication roads: Casale Monferrato on the Po river right-side; Acqui Terme, Ovada and Novi Ligure at the gate to the Appennine mountains and near rivers; Tortona along the Milan-Genoa road. The Province of Alessandria is a fascinating corner of Italy, where you can still live in contact with nature, enjoy varied and beautiful landscapes, and with genuine, simple people who have established strong relations with their "good land". |
