THE CENTENARY EXHIBITION: 100 years of Fausto Coppi 1919-2019
The Museum “Alessandria Città delle Biciclette” (Alessandria City of Bicycles) is a place of memory and identity, the home of stories of past Champions, of competitive cyclists and the supporters whom the province of Alessandria has known how to reveal for a century. Of the adventures of Coppi, Girardengo, Carrea, Cuniolo, Malabrocca, Meazzo, but also of journalists and storytellers of cycling, of the craftsman Giovanni Maino, Eliso Rivera, co-founder of the “Gazzetta dello Sport” newspaper, of the female workers of the Borsalino hat factory, always photographed on their inseparable bikes, of the Circolo Velocipedisti Alessandrino (Cycling Association of Alessandria); of the rivalry between Giovanni Cuniolo (“Manina-Small hand”) from Tortona and Giovanni Gerbi (“Diavolo Rosso- Red Devil”) from Asti. The exhibition, hosted in Palazzo Monferrato, displays giant photographs of the Champion, originating from the archives of the Museums of Ghisallo and AcdB, from private photographic albums of the Coppi, Carrea, Rota and Torriani families. There is also a tribute to Vito Liverani and Walter Breveglieri. First personal monographic exhibition of the cyclist-painter Miguel Soro.
